Michigan Campus Compact announced that earlier this month, Dr. Kim Klein and Lisa Lawrason, Associate Professors, Political Science at Delta College, were honored with a MiCC Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award at Civic Engagement Institute 2014: Celebrating 25 Years of Connecting Campus & Community.

Dr. Charissa Urbano, Professor of Biology at Delta College, is the 2014 recipient of the College’s Spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. Award.

Delta College instructor of philosophy, Darci Doll, and associate professor of history, Laura Dull, joined 23 other faculty members from various disciplines and types of institutions from across the Americas for a three-week Asian studies institute earlier this summer. The Infusing Asian Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum institute, run by the East-West Center at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, provides faculty members with access to leading scholars in the field through lectures, discussions, films screenings, site visits, and cultural events.

Due to the resignation of Dr. Kathy Ellison of Midland, the Delta College Board of Trustees seeks to appoint a citizen of the Delta College district to fill a vacancy on the Board of Trustees until a successor is elected and qualified at the next regular community college election in 2014.

We have a passion for quality and want to publicly recognize individuals who have exceeded expectations and reached their highest goals. Delta College employees are all outstanding, but these few have reached the pinnacle of success this year. A banquet in their honor will take place on Friday, April 12 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Bay City.

Delta College English Professor Jeff Vande Zande’s novel, American Poet, has won a 2013 Michigan Notable Book Award from the Library of Michigan.

Carl Ruth, Assistant Director of Counseling, Advising and Career Services, is the recipient of Delta College's Spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. Award. Ruth will receive the prestigious award on Monday, January 21 at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw. Tickets are available at the Delta College Cashier's Office and will be available at the door on the night of the event.

Delta College Professor of Communications, Nancy Vader-McCormick, Ph.D., has written a book published by New Forums Press titled, The Engaged Teacher: What Works with Today’s Students.

Delta College’s Developmental Education Program has been awarded the John Champaign Memorial Award for Outstanding Developmental Education Program by the National Association of Developmental Education Association (NADE). The award, which recognizes excellence in a Developmental Education program, will be presented to Delta College at a conference later this month in Orlando, FL.

The Development of Service-Learning Team at Delta College has been selected to receive this year’s Liberal Arts Network for Development (LAND) Institutional Excellence Award. The award will be presented at the 2012 LAND Conference on Friday, February 17, 2012 at noon at the Park Place Hotel in Traverse City, Michigan.

Westbrook has been selected by the Delta College Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) to receive the 2012 Spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award. She will receive the prestigious award at the 16th Annual Alpha Phi Alpha Unity Luncheon to be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Dow Event Center. The program is co-sponsored by the Delta College BFSA.

Dr. Tom Lane will receive an honorary degree from The Open University, a distance learning and research university in Milton Keynes, England. The doctorate degree will be presented on September 10, 2011, in the Palais des Congres, Versailles, France.
