The World View Award is presented annually as part of Delta College’s Global Awareness Program. The award recognizes members of our community who have put forth significant and sustained effort toward generating awareness of global issues and/or providing service globally.
The 2009 World View Award recipients are:
Charles and Nancy Cusick
Mr. and Mrs. Cusick work with their local Rotary Club to raise awareness and educate the public about the battle against Polio; they have traveled to Nigeria in on-going efforts to immunize children against, and eventually eradicate, this disease. They also have strong ties to Guatemala, in which they have worked to design and implement projects that provide technology and educational resources to rural schools in that country.
Jack Crowell
Jack has consistently worked to generate awareness of other cultures and friendship and understanding between people of different cultures and backgrounds. His global service began as a Peace Corps Volunteer to the Gold Coast in Africa more than 45 years ago. He is one of the originators of Delta’s 20-year relationship with Rift Valley Institute, and for the past 16 years, has worked to collect, pack and coordinate shipments of books, computers and other educational resources. To date, 16 shipments have been sent to Kenya with materials being distributed to over 400 schools.
