During the Michigan Community College Press Association's Annual Conference and Journalism Contest, Delta Collegiate staffers received numerous awards and recognitions from the state.
They include:
Maxwell Barth of Bay City the Collegiate’s Arts/Entertainment Editor, Photographer, and Page Designer, for "Gasoline Woes" a 2-page feature story.
Ashley Niedzwiecki of Pinconning, Collegiate Editor in Chief received 2nd place for three columns: "What the veep?"; "The vote has been Ba-rocked!"; and "Clearing the slate from 2008".
Rashad Baiyasi of Midland working as the newspaper’s Features Editor, Cartoonist and Page Designer
- 2nd place for "It's like Japanese videogame Christmas in March!" a full-page review along with an original comic
- 1st place for an editorial cartoon titled "Maybe not the cleanest, though"
- 1st place for an entertainment cartoon titled "No shadows in a burlap sack"
- an informational graphic for "Gasoline Woes" story.
And the Collegiate Staff, 3rd place for the headline "Lost Boy finds his way to Delta".
More than 200 students entered the contest from 13 colleges around the states. Judges were selected from major state newspapers, such as the Detroit Free Press, and major universities such as Duke and the University of Michigan.
