Larry Ramseyer, Director of Facilities Management, and Linda Petee, Sustainability and Risk Management Coordinator, both presented Delta College sustainability initiatives at the recent Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s Greening of the Campus Conference held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Ramseyer, along with representatives from JJR, LLC, a landscape architecture, planning, and environmental design firm, discussed the College’s South Campus project which included sustainability components such as, enhancing over 2000 linear feet of county drain, reusing more than 15,000 cubic yards of bituminous pavement, and installing more cost-effective LED lighting reducing energy use by 45 percent.
Petee held workshops on Marketing Your Sustainability Program, and Establishing a Sustainability Office: From Task Force Initiation to Program Implementation.
“We’re very pleased to speak at this national level,” said Petee. “Delta has been involved in sustainability for several years, but it’s new to many colleges. We’re able to provide them with information so they don’t have to reinvent the wheel at their college.”
In its eighth year, the interdisciplinary conference allowed people representing diverse areas in university and college communities to share information on environmental issues. These areas range from the practical day-to-day management of the physical plant to "green" curriculum development and "green" utilization of campus resources.
