Holiday Happenings at the Planetarium
December 1, 2009

Friday, December 4 @ 7:00 pm – “Great Lakes Night Sky”
What will I see when I go outside tonight? Stars, bright planets and telescopic objects will be pointed out as we use the “time machine” or the Planetarium to “stay up all night” and watch the parade in the sky. After the show, weather permitting, join us on the Observation Deck as we use telescopes to explore the night sky.  Ticket prices:  $4.00/3-18, $4.00/60+, $5.00/19-59

Saturday, December 5, Sunday, December 13 & Tuesday, December 22 @ 2:00 pm – “Tis the Season”
A multi-cultural celebration of the Holiday Season.  Explore past and present traditions observed by various cultures around the world.  Travel from the American Southwest to the temples of Jerusalem and back to the present day. Discover the mystery of the Star of Bethlehem and the importance of light to the Holiday Season.  Ticket prices: $4.00/3-18, $4.00/60+, $5.00/19-59

Sunday, December 6 @ 2:00 pm – “Steamrolling Through the Holidays”
An entertaining musical and visual tribute to the Holiday Season. This program features the music of Mannheim Steamroller and a parade of holiday imagery. Digital surround sound audio and the planetarium’s 360-degree domed screen provide a delightful way to get into the holiday spirit.

Thursday, December 10, 1:00-3:30 pm – “Holiday Traditions”
Have you ever wondered why we use trees as a symbol of the December holidays, why trees are decorated and how the custom of gift giving began?  Learn the origin of many of our holiday traditions as Eric Jylha (Director of Development at the Historical Museum of Bay County and TV5 Weather Specialist) enlightens you with the stories of how they began.  You’ll also get to enjoy seeing the special planetarium show “Tis the Season”.  Light refreshments will be served. Invite your friends to this holiday afternoon.  Ticket prices:  $5.00/person, FREE for Delta College 50+…Just Like Gold Members.

Saturday, December 12, Sunday, December 20 & Wednesday, December 23 @ 2:00 pm – “The Christmas Star”
The most popular planetarium topic during the holidays.  Was there really a “Star of Bethlehem?”  Can it be explained by a natural occurrence like a comet or exploding star, or do we still not know 2000 years later.   Ticket prices: $4.00/3-18, $4.00/60+, $5.00/19-59

Saturday, December 19, 10:45 am -3:00 pm – “Holiday Fun for Children” ages 7-11
